SF Briefs: ipickmynose Presents, Grand Lake at Mission Creek, more

+ ipickmynose is presenting a great show at Bottom of the Hill tomorrow - the Rural Alberta Advantage with locals Okay and Half-handed Cloud. Reasons to go: this could be the last IPMN show ever (in SF, at least), and IPMN's Adrian has this to say:

If you’ve been reading this blog, you know my love of Rural Alberta Advantage is nothing new. In fact, they released one of my favorite albums of 2008 [rereleased this week on Saddle Creek].... I saw them twice at SxSW, including an incredible, breath-taking show at Central Presbyterian. They produce driving, often-raw indie folk about Alberta. Mark my word, they will put on a good show.

+ The Mission Creek Music and Arts Festival kicks off this weekend, and the complete lineup is a beast. A totally awesome beast, that is. One highlight is this Saturday's OMFG Oakland! - an all-day showcase for East Bay bands at Rooz Cafe. The lineup features our pals Grand Lake alongside Make Me, White Cloud, The Blank Tapes, Colossal Yes, The Splinters, Ghost and the City, The Dashing Suns and The Double U.

+ On the subject of Grand Lake - the band is now a trio consisting of original members Caleb Nichols (bass/vocals) and Jameson Swanagon (guitar), alongside new drummer John Pomeroy.

+ The Pains of Being Pure at Heart are hitting the road. Their California stops will be July 20 at The Echo in Los Angeles and July 21 at The Rickshaw Stop in San Fransisco. Support for both shows comes from locals Girls. Pains' debut album and a bunch of 7" singles are out on Oakland label Slumberland.

+ SF's Birds and Batteries have a new MP3 available at Pampelmoose for the track "Out in the Woods."

+ LA's fabulous art and music community venue, Pehrspace, is in danger of shutting down with one more noise complaint. Over the past weekend, a show was stopped due to noise complaints - a first in the venue's three years. [via Rock Insider]

+ Sony Music Entertainment has agreed to a deal with eMusic, allowing their back catalog to be sold through the subscription service. According to the New York Times: "The company plans to announce on Monday that it will add all Sony Music tracks that are more than two years old, including material from artists like Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel."

+ UK 7" label Young and Lost Club has added a new dimension to their "singles club." If you sign up for their mailing list, then every fortnight you will receive a new or hard to find track or remix from your favorite Y&LC artists and friends.

+ Oakland's Slumberland Records will be releasing a new colored vinyl 7" from The Pains of Being Pure at Heart ("103" b/w "Falling Over") on 7/28. [via MBV]

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart played Spaceland last night for their first LA show. As we reported, the band released a new 7" this week for "Young Adult Fiction." Here's a clip we found of that song being performed last night.

The true testament of the impact of an indie band is their backlash. If all is going accordingly, we should be bracing for a Pains of Being Pure at Heart backlash any minute now. I never was one for backlashes, so don't expect me to get involved. I love their debut, in all of its jangly, melancholy, Sundays/Camera Obsucra/Lush-ish glory. I wish I were in LA to catch the band's set at Spaceland tomorrow night because, well, I think that would be a rather pleasant experience. In stores today from Oakland's Slumberland Records (who also released the Pain's debut) is a new 7" for the standout track, "Young Adult Friction." On the flip side is a new song, entitled "Ramona." You can pick up a copy of the 7" here, or download "Ramona" from iTunes.
