Twenty Six

And so I am 26. The thought of getting older used to scare me. In my early twenties, birthdays were kind of depressing because I felt like I was not going anywhere and the world was passing me by. But, over these past three years, birthdays have been more of a celebration because I am very happy about where my life was headed, and I feel as though I am on the right path.

While today is my actual birthday, it feels as though we've been celebrating all week. Yesterday, we attended an afternoon Giants game, and I finally got a chance to see them win, while also seeing two of my favorite players (Tim Lincecum and Brian Wilson) in fine form.

A night earlier, we saw Dolly Parton at the Greek. Dolly is one hell of a performer, mixing tracks from her latest release with the obvious favorites. The crowd was a serious mix of young and old, and Parton delighted with lots of stories and a number of jokes that were beyond corny; she somehow made them seem charming, though. My personal favorite was a song I'd never heard before - the minimalist Celtic sounding "Little Sparrow."

And now to keep this birthday feeling going, I am going to indulge in a nice cup of hazelnut coffee and a cookie.

D'Oh! And I missed your birthday! It sounds like you had a fabulous birthday week, which is always the way in which birthdays should be celebrated, in my opinion. I hope this is a great year for you.
