Tacos at Midnight
Ages ago now it seems (Wednesday, 1/30), the Passionistas headlined the Knockout for the Lower Class Revolt club night. What I recall was a somewhat strange, late evening, which involved me going to a taqueria around midnight for a taco. Then I returned to the Knockout and enjoyed another set from the band which was heavy on new material. To be honest the night was kind of a blur, but Mike and Zoe from LCR were quite nice and I enjoyed talking with them about the music business. For many, many years Mike ran the Devil in the Woods label and magazine, and I'll be seeking out some of his advice for future projects.*** On Tuesday night, I went to a screening at UC Berkley that was curated by two of my professors from college, who've just published a book entitled F is For Phony: Fake Documentary And Truth's Undoing. Three fake documentaries were screened - Land Without Bread, No Lies, and Shulie, the latter two I recalled from my days as a student at Pitzer. Man, it was great to be in that academic environment again - obscure and challenging films being discussed. I really miss that community.*** Tonight I have a meeting with the other writers from The Bay Bridged, as well as some other things to go over as I attempt to smooth out some kind of future plan.
