For Your Listening Pleasure

a few songs that should be in your current rotation ...

N&UR pals The Music Lovers are putting the finishing touches on their third (and maybe final) record - Masculine/Feminine. While we patiently await its conclusion, the band posted "Saturday" on their MySpace. I first heard this song at their Make Out Room show a few months back, and have not been able to get it out of my head. The recorded version is packed with lush string arrangements and backing vocals, all creating my favorite Music Lovers song yet. In fact, this is one of my favorite songs from this year.

New Buffalo's The Last Beautiful Day was a forgotten gem from 2005, lost in the shuffle of more high profile Arts and Crafts releases from Stars and Broken Social Scene. Shame, seeing as how the record outdid the recent efforts from those aforementioned artists. Now, Sally Seltmann has returned with a new release, Somewhere, Anywhere (More On This Album) and we have opening number "Cheer Me Up Thank You" for your downloading pleasure. (Fun fact about Seltman: She penned "1234" from Feist's latest release).

You know I love The Happy Hollows, who just played a show with the Passionistas in San Francisco before kicking off a Monday residency at the Echo in LA. To coincide with this residency, the band has a new song four song EP to complement the phenomenal Bunnies and Bombs EP. You can stream one of the new tracks ("Monster Room") over at their MySpace and download the MP3 from Rock Insider.

Thanks for the new music links. I'll have to come back and take a listen. Have you heard the new Berirut album?
