Well, when you've just started a record company, you certainly have record label heroes. Saddle Creek was one of the first indie labels I really got into back during my junior year of college. I haven't paid too much attention to them as of late, save the past couple Bright Eyes records, but that all could change with today's news. The fabulous Tokyo Police Club, maker's of the brilliant, but too short A Lesson in Crime EP have signed a worldwide deal with the Omaha label. Pitchfork has photos from the signing.
MP3 - "Nature Of The Experiment," Tokyo Police Club
MP3 - "Shoulders and Arms," Tokyo Police Club
(Both songs from A Lesson In Crime)
Also in today's label news, and also reported by Pitchfork, the perfectly titled Sympathy For the Record Industry label has gone up for sale. The imprint was the original home to the White Stripes, as well as countless others. Upon hearing the news, I had to resist my temptation to expand my label empire even further.

I heard about this signing and am hoping for great things. I feel a bit proprietory toward them, as Eva is friends with the drummer's sister.
I'm pretty excited about seeing TPC next month.
