The Return of America

You know America? At least you probably know "A Horse With No Name," the Neil Young-ish number that shows up on just about every compilation covering the seventies. Well, I just saw an ad in a magazine alerting me that they're back ... with a new record, Here and Now, which looks to be half live and half new. Not so interested in the live (I caught them on Austin City Limits a few months back and they looked, well, old), but the new material is produced by Adam Schlesinger and James Iha. Also, it features collaborations with Ryan Adams, Ben Kweller, My Morning Jacket, Fountains of Wayne, and Nada Surf. They have my interest, at least.

"Ventura Highway" - this one's a classic

"they looked, well, old"
Excellent description.

I haven't heard the name Ben Kweller is quite some time. Sounds interesting nonetheless.

Is it just me or are more and more of these old washed up bands resurfacing? Are they feeling their mortality, is that what it is?

Jamie - that was probably their shining moment.

Barbara - I think you're right. Probably a mix of bands who may see their influence in younger bands wanting to hop their own bandwagon; plus there's always the younger generation helping their heroes make comebacks. Seems to me like musicians and producers of this era are much eager to take on the work of band's from previous generations.
