Magic Christian Live in SF This Thursday

To all our San Francisco-based readers, you should really come out to this show - the Magic Christain at the Red Devil Lounge. We've been following the Magic Christain for several months now and - in the very near future - they will be the subject of some very special N&UR Video Podcasts. It is certainly rare in this day and age to see a new band comprised of such storied veterans. Playing lead guitar, writing the songs and occasionally harmonizing is Cyril Jordan, who fronted San Francisco's legendary Flamin' Groovies for three decades. Prarie Prince - who has played with Jefferson Starship, Todd Rundgren, and most recently, the New Cars - is on drums. Alec Paolo - who has played in intricate role in producing each of the Nuggets box sets, as well as similar collections for the Zombies and CCR - is on bass. Fronting the band and playing the tambourine is newcomer Paul Koph, who spent several years curating the Baypop Festival. Together they craft something that is both fresh and classic. Make friends with them at MySpace, and give a listen to a couple of tunes -

"Till I Looked Into Her Eyes"
"I Can See For Miles" (Who cover)

There's also plenty of reason to show up early - as the Dilletantes will be opening, as well as Powell St. John. The Dilletantes are fronted by none other than Brain Jonestown Massacre percussionist/Gilmore Girls scene stealer, Joel Gion. Hopefully I will see some of you there - this Thursday at the Red Devil Lounge. And if you don't live in San Francisco - well, just enjoy the tunes.

I've never heard of them before, but they sound pretty fine. Thanks for the listen.
