Danger Mouse Stays Busy
If all DJ Danger Mouse had done was revolutionize mashups with his ingenious Beatles vs Jay-Z record, The Grey Album, he would have my undying love. Yet, in 2005, he then helped one of my favorite bands (Gorillaz) take their sound to a whole new level, following that up with a devilishly fun Cartoon Network-inspired collaborative album with MF Doom. Fans of any of these previously mentioned projects should be pleased to note that more is on the way from Danger in the very near future. First, his collaborative prject with Cee-Lo - known as Gnarls Barkley - saw the release of it's first single, "Crazy," with Rolling Stone describing the sound as "soul music from another, cooler dimsension. . . . If this song is crazy, you don't want to be sane." Most interesting, however, is the fact that Danger is in the studio with NYC dance rockers, The Rapture, producing the much-aniticpated follow-up to 2003's Echoes. Of their choice in producer, Luke Jenner (1/2 of the Rapture) says, "Danger Mouse is definitely the most far-out thing we've done. This is the closest to a collaboration we've done - and it's definitely not a traditional approach. He just treats us like samples. Instead of me going in and playing a guitar part - he'll take a little loop of it and use it to sound like something's exploding. It doesn't even sound like a guitar after he's done with it sometimes. That's new for us." Color me excited.

He's number 1 in the download charts over here. It's the first single to get to number 1 having not been released in stores.
I have to listen to some of his stuff, I've hard about him.
