See, Baseball is Totally Indie Rock

Recently, my brother Charlie attempted to bridge the gap between sports fans and indie music hipsters. Well, the good folks at Matador and 2K Sports must have been listening. Pitchfork reports that the soon-to-be-released Major League Baseball 2K6 will feature previously released music from Interpol, Belle and Sebastian, Pretty Girls Make Graves, Mogwai, Pavement, Preston School of Industry, DJ Spooky, Guided By Voices, Yo La Tengo, Stephen Malkmus, and more. Actually, this seems to make perfect sense, given that video games are steadily becoming a means by which to promote music, almost at the level of television or movie soundtracks. At the same time, indie artists (Interpol in particular) have been receiving mainstream attention. Now while this may appear like an attempt to inspire indie artists to "sell out" by making their music more accessible to a jock-ish audience, I can't help but find it a little cool. Besides, I can't think of anything more awesome than hitting a home run as Moises Alou, and circling the bases to the sound of "NARC." Hey, there are some sports fans who think "Bad to the Bone" is the Worst Song Ever.

2 "All Medicated Genuises" - Pretty Girls Make Graves
3 "Do Not Feed the Oyster" - Stephen Malkmus

Let me guess - Piazza, New York Catcher is the B&S offering?

Why shouldn't indie musicians make a little money, I say?
