Arctic Monkeys kick off their sold-out US tour in San Francisco next week, and the jury's still out on whether their record-breaking success at home will translate over here. While we wait and see, here are a few points of interest:•This past week, Best Week Ever ran the frighteningly accurate segment, "The Four Stages of Arctic Monkeys":
•The quartet upped the cool factor at Saturday Night Live last night for what proved to be a rather enjoyable episode. They played "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor" and a rather stellar version of "A Certain Romance."
•Following my review of Whatever People Say I Am..., I received an email regarding a Platial map of the Arctics US tour, where you can share your stories and whatnot. I haven't checked it out myself, but figured I'd mention it.

The Arctic Monkeys are great live (and not live!) and surprisingly, are one of our inspirations. Most of our fans are currently in stage 1, infatuation, however our plan is to skip straight to stage 42, World Domination! Think, 'Planet of the Donkeys'. It's coming!

I admire the way in which the Arctic Monkeys built their following. Word of mouth is a powerful thing and giving away cds - well who doesn't love that?
I'm kind of neutral about their music, however, and foresee them burning out quickly. Hot fires and all that...
The Four Stages video seems very prophetic. Here's my take: 1-ardour, 2- confusion (in North America), 3- movie deal, 4 - spice girls

I like their music. It's not love, but I like it. I really have to separate myself mentally from the hype though.
Why so cynical? Just because an indie band has found mainstream success, it doesn't mean they're going to turn into the black eyed peas.
After the Black Eyed Peas, it is hard not to be cynical.
Just kidding. Good point, Charlie ... I wish them all the best, and the success is a good thing (if it makes the radio better). I'm just wondering how they will handle it, given that they are rather young and have a lot of pressure on their shoulders.
I think that's the point exactly, Will. The fact that everything happened so quickly at such as young age. I hope they can maintain that. I always get terrified when a band I like releases a second album - sophomore jinx and all.
