In this dream, a friend of mine reads on a blog that the Clientele are going to be playing an $8 show at San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art. He also reads that the reunited Smashing Pumpkins are the opening act - only nobody knows this because they are playing under a different name.
Now this dream could be nothing more than a dream, yet when I was reading the news today at NME, I learned that Billy Corgan had posted a cryptic message on his MySpace page. "The surprise I have in store for you all will be announced soon enough," he said. "Hold on to your horses. After all, good things surely comes to those who wait....Don't you just love the suspense?" (This was actually posted on December 11, so NME is way out of the loop. Corgan's last login was 12/24/05). NME speculates that this means the Pumpkins will be playing at this year's Coachella Festival. I, however believe that my dream was hinting to the fact that the surprise will be way more under the radar. Put the clues together if you can, and if you hear about the Clientele playing a cheap show at a museum, with an opening act you've never heard of, it could very well be a Smashing Pumpkins reunion show.
It is unclear, however, how much of a "reunion" this is. Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain are still buds, so expect him to still be on drums. I don't think Corgan is talking much to James Iha or D'Arcy, but he apparently is talking to Melissa Auf Der Maur (who played bass on the band's final tour). Entertainment Weekly predicts, "the Smashing Pumpkins will reunite. And by 'reunite' we mean Corgan will begin a greatest hits tour backed by a band comprised of his cousin Betty, eccentric guitarist Buckethead, and some dude he met in the Wrigley Field bleachers last summer."
