The Go! Team Bring the Jock Jams to KCRW

Sometimes it takes you a while to notice a good thing - even when everyone is talking about it. The Go! Team did not come to the attention of New and Used Records until Charlie purchased "Thunder, Lightning, Strike" in September following its U.S. release. He then put it on my iPod and I, subsequently, passed it along to Hillary, and we are all now obsessed with it. My personal favorite is "We Just Won't Be Defeated," an uplifting, "Rocky"-ish jock jam for those of us who are not jocks.

The Team recently visited KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic for a live set, where their sample-heavy sound translated surprisingly well into a strong performance, especially with the inclusion of rapper Ninja. On the topic of their unique sound, sample mastermind Ian Parton says, "I wished people would kind of move out of their genre a bit more and mix things up a bit . . . It's quite self-indulgent in a way; it's all my favorite things. It's Charlie Brown piano and Bollywood strings, it's breakbeats and kinda car chase-y horns . . . it's double dutch, it's Sonic Youth."

The Go! Team also have an awesome website, which - besides a great design - allows you to listen to their b-sides including a "Ladyflash"/"Huddle Formation" mash-up remixed by reclusive My Bloody Valentine leader Kevin Shields.

(And, yes, I know 2 of these 3 pictures don't have anything to do with the band).
