In 1988, following a self-titled release, Ian McCulloch left Echo and the Bunnymen to pursue a solo career. While that could have brought an end to the group, instead Noel Burke was recruited to take over vocal duties. His voice was chosen from a stack of audition tapes, and the subsequent album - Reverberation - failed to generate buzz. Despite its hideous cover art, Bradley Smith at Nude as the News says that the album is worth a listen: "Some of these songs are fantastic. I suppose the best advice one can give when approaching this album is to ignore the name of the band." With little success from their new lineup, Echo and the Bunnymen broke up only to reform in 1997 with McCulloch back at the helm. In 2005, the band released Siberia and is currently on tour.

That IS a horrid album cover, innit? Is that what I think it is - gynecological exam meets stereo headphones? Yuck.
Echo and the Bunneymen is one of those bands that I've not paid enough attention to, and then whenever I do hear them, I think "I need to pay more attention to this band".
I had no idea they were still alive let alone making records...talk about flying under the radar!
I like their older stuff...I'll have to look around for some samples of the newer material.
They're still making music and sounding great live. Hillary and I saw them three times our senior year of college.
I love this band so much that I named my son after the lead singer. Yep. They are still making great music. Hub-Man has an autographed poster from their last album hanging in his recording studio.
Even tho Ian didn't sing on the album you're reviewing here, it still is a good album. It has some really catchy tunes and I pull it out every once in a while and give it a good listen. It's worth my time, definitely.
I've seen both version of the band live.
Great to see some Echo fans here. I knew very little about them before I met Hillary.
KC, great stories there. Both incarnations of the band ... that is interesting. May have some questions for you.
Interesting! Some of the big 80's Brit bands had a terrible time surviving the 90's etc. I have heard they are still solid musically.
