U-N-I Release Debut Album For Free

California rap duo U-N-I have taken a bold step and decided to release their debut, A Love Supreme, for free. [Download it here]. This shouldn't come as too much as a surprise - rappers recognized the power of giving away music for free via the internet long before other genre artists caught on. Still, U-N-I already released an album's worth of free material - the Before There Was Love mixtape - not too long ago. [You can download that one at Get Right Music].

The group definitely caught my attention when that mixtape - which was presented by Mick Boogie - dropped. Their songs reflect a return to hip hop's early days - laid back rhymes being traded off between MCs about summer days and new kicks. That being said, the production is anything but nostalgic or dated. A genuine hip hop renaissance for fans of Black Star, Little Brother, Dilated Peoples, A Tribe Called Quest and Kanye West. The release party is tonight at the Viper Room - deets on the flyer above.
