MTV Introduces Soundtrack

"Soundtrack ... is MTV's most targeted and relevant Web 2.0 effort yet, and will likely be an appreciated attempt to bring at least some of the network's focus back to music. Considering how many people watch The Hills, it could make a difference."
- Caroline McCarthy, MTV's 'Soundtrack' jumps on stage (CNET)
Soundtrack.MTV.com is a new feature from the music video giant that serves two functions - bands upload their music for consideration for placement on the network's programming, while fans can find what songs played on which shows at which times. With reality programming dominating MTV for several years now, song placement in shows such as The Hills and The Real World has become an effective tool for bands looking to reach a wider audience. I would expect a lot of bands to start uploading their music.
