What to Do With Your Summer Vacation:
Start a Pirate Radio Staion,
Launch a Magazine

It is 10:51AM in San Francisco, and it looks like we could be in for a hot one. Yesterday, it stayed toasty into the wee hours of the morning. For those of you who don't live in San Francisco - this is not normal. It does mean something, however - summer has arrived. Perhaps you are so lucky as to have some free time on your hands this summer. If indeed you are making a list of what to do with your summer vacation, may I suggest two activities which will get your creative juices flowing and fill many hours of your day.

Start a Pirate Radio Station
Maybe you were thinking of plugging a mic into your Mac and opening up GarageBand to star in your own podcast. Podcasting is a fabulous medium - do not get me wrong, but not the route to go if you really want to stick it to the man. Before podcasting, when the airwaves really were controlled by the privileged few, a few hundred dollars worth of equipment could help you launch your very own illegal radio station. On your own pirate radio station, you can play whatever the fuck you want, play whatever the fuck you want and, best of all, get hunted by the FCC. Now, I haven't ever done this myself, but I have seen Pump Up the Volume so I'd like to think I know a thing or two about being a pirate DJ. Thankfully, if you still want to set up your own illegal station, the fine folks at Little Radio can tell you everything you need to know.

Launch a Magazine
Rather try something of the legal variety like, say, your own magazine. I just found out about MagCloud from Rubin Recommends, which "enables you to publish your own magazines. All you have to do is upload a PDF and we'll take care of the rest: printing, mailing, subscription management, and more." Sounds fascinating.
