Downloading Girl Talk,
While Breaking From Packing

Last night I went home, made my way to the Illegal Art website, and purchased the new Girl Talk album. Girl Talk took the Radiohead approach with this release - allowing fans to name their price. I debated over what price I would pay, though unlike Radiohead, Girl Talk offered incentives for paying more:
any price grants the download of the entire album as high-quality 320kbps mp3s
$5 or more adds the options of FLAC files, plus a one-file seamless mix of the album
$10 or more includes all of the above + a packaged CD (when it becomes available)
I settled on option three, because I would still be paying for the music, but I would also be getting a physical product (preferable for me) at a decent price. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed with good music lately - I have not even fully wrapped my head around the new Lil Wayne, my brother burned Fleet Foxes for me, I just created a pretty solid summer mix and expect to receive a couple more in exchange, and I wish to explore more of the Illegal Art catalog.

After a long, picky, and sometimes draining journey, it appears that stars have aligned and Hillary and I will be making our move to Oakland in about a week. I'm only a tad nostalgic leaving the SF building we've been in for four years. I'm more excited to explore a new neighborhood - one that boasts gorgeous weather, a lake, a movie theater within walking distance, plus lots of shops and great restaurants. I'm excited to find a new community and also bring the one I have over. I am excited for the fresh start of sorts, and the newfound motivation to seek out artistic venues. On the music side, I feel like I have a number of great contacts in San Francisco who will remain. This move will allow for me to tap in to the East Bay music scene, which I have been eager to explore. We started packing last night, boxing up the CDs and DVDs. We've got our work cut out for us, but I am excited to be creative setting up the new place.

Sounds like you have a lot of good times ahead of you in Oakland. A move at the start of a season is a great fresh start. How far is Oakland from San Francisco?

Best of luck packing. Its a task I dread, hopefully it is painless for you both.
