Last month, Hillary and I had the good fortune of going to New York for an all-too-brief trip. On a Friday afternoon, my cousin took us out to Brooklyn where I hadn't visited on my previous two NY trips. Seemed like a place I should visit, seeing as how it is such a cultural hub. Just out of the subway, I spotted Arin from Four Eyed Monsters talking on a cell phone. We popped into a coffee shop where they were supporting local star LCD Soundsystem by playing Sound of Silver. Just outside the shop was some Space Invader guerilla art (pictured to the left). Next door was the fabulous Spoonbill and Sugartown bookstore, which had a great selection of books related to art, postmodernism and all those subjects that tempt me. I limited myself to simply purchasing Jean-Luc Godard: The Future(s) of Film - Three Interviews 2000/2001. I can't go anywhere without checking out the local record store. We dropped by Ear Wax Records, where the staff recommended I pick up a copy of Excepter's Throne. My cousin also noticed a vinyl record featuring Peaches' remix of Tone Loc's "Wild Thing." Clearly, this just seemed to interesting to pass up.
While Brooklyn and myself get along pretty well together, I can't say I would ever see myself living there. At least not at this point in my life. I have, however, been plotting a move to Oakland which - according to the New York times is the new Brooklyn.

Oakland? Do tell.
Your Brooklyn experience sounds like a truly cultural mosaic.
Oakland, eh? I'm with Barb, do tell.
Ooh, Four Eyed Monsters...what have they been up to lately? I must check them out again, thanks for the reminder.
I will elaborate on Oakland in the near future ... when landlords stop being haterz about cats.
As for Four Eyed Monsters, they recently posted five new episodes. Sounds like they are still working to pay off some credit card debt, but at least there are new episodes.
