Stationed in the Mission

I've decided that I could pretty much live on Mexican food everyday. I doubt I would ever get sick of it. And I am totally unpretentious when it comes to Mexican food - give me an authentic taco from a street vendor or some TexMex concoction - I am fine either way. I've decided that whenever I am in the Mission for a show, I am going to do dinner at a Taqueria. I began this tradition last month, when I stopped for tacos at midnight before the Passionistas played the Knockout. Yesterday, I ended up a taqueria in the outer outer (quite outer) Mission that from the inside looked kind of like Chevy's. I like Chevy's so this was not a problem. The "street tacos" I ordered were pretty good, too.

So what brought me to the outer outer Mission? This week marks the annual San Francisco mini-SXSW festival known as Noise Pop. I'm actually not attending any Noise Pop shows this week - the only one I'm bummed out missing is the Gutter Twins. Noise Pop also plays host, however, to a number of free events centered around drinking, with a bit of networking to go along with that. I swung by the first of these last night at Thee Parkside in time to catch the end of Jub, who gave me a free CD afterwards. It was pretty quiet there, but I did get to chat a little with the guys from the Bay Bridged. I also saw Solar Powered People and a little bit of Music For Animals before stepping out to have my tacos.

I then headed over to the Knockout for Lower Class Revolt. My friend Katie was there as The Specs were playing - so I chatted a bit with her. Mijuanito opened and they played soft, very pretty music. Then came our friends the Specs, who are always enjoyable and a bit too brief in the set. Katie's between song banter is always a high point. Solar Powered People wrapped things up - so I ended up seeing them twice in one day - and they had all kinds of fancy equipment to accompany their dark, atmospheric sound.

I'd like to know more about what N&UR releases you have planned, etc.

A shame that you missed the Gutter Twins, but it sounds like you were working the place pretty hard, so you are forgiven.
