Fabulous Sophie Ellis Bextor Tune

Trip the Light Fantastic - the latest release from British pop star Sophie Ellis Bextor - has yet to reach the States. Thankfully, Hillary was able to obtain a copy when she was across the pond earlier this year. That is why we are able to present you with the video for "Today the Sun's On Us," a fabulous single, which has been in constant rotation around the N&UR offices...

In other Sophie news, March of next year will see the release of a Greatest Hits album, for which Bextor is recording some new material. According to Wikipedia, the first single is to be called "Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer" - but that's only if you trust Wikipedia.

Its true.. Sophie announced that title and she said its her first single. The second single is probably a song called "Off & On" which was written by Cathy Dennis for Roisin Murphy, but Sophie recorded it with Calvin Harris. The song is supposed to be very good.

This is the rumoured tracklist for the GH album:

01. Take Me Home (A Girl Like Me)
02. Murder On The Dancefloor
03. Get Over You
04. Move This Mountain
05. Music Gets The Best Of Me
06. Mixed Up World
07. I Won't Change You
08. Catch You
09. Me And My Imagination
10. Today The Sun's On Us
11. Heartbreak Make Me A Dancer
12. Off & On
13. (new song with Groove Armada)
14. I Got The Wherewithal
15. If You Can't Do It When You're Young; When Can You Do It?
16. A Pessimist Is Never Disappointed
17. I Know Enough (I Don't Get Enough)

Sophie said that its a double disc album, and the 2nd disc is probably a b-sides/covers/rarities disc. Its not confirmed cos she let her fans decide if they want a bonus disc with songs or a DVD. As of now, the former seems to have more votes.

She will have the single out in March, followed by the GH and then her headline tour.

Awesome. Thanks for the info. Tracklist looks pretty good and we'd certainly be excited to hear the new tunes - especially one with Groove Armada. I'm sure it will never reach the States, however, or maybe this is how they can build her American following.

Sophie performed "Crying At The Discotheque" for the 2nd time in G.A.Y so maybe thats a hint that the song will be featured on the bonus disc. Sophie has a bunch of rarities/b-sides/covers:

01. Never Let Me Down
02. Live It Up - Acoustic
03. The Earth Shook The Devils Hand
04. Yes Sir, I Can Boogie
05. One Way Or Another
06. Want You More
07. Down With Love
08. Move To The Music
09. Duel
10. Colour Me In
11. Dear Jimmy
12. Here's To You

Proper versions of the last two tracks are currently unavailable. #11 was on a sequenced disc, so we are expecting that, and #12 was a vinyl only feature, so that is expected as well (judging by Girls Aloud's bonus disc on their GH)

Sophie has about 80 unreleased songs. Cross your fingers and hope for new songs on the bonus disc
