I confess ... I don't really follow NBA basketball. But I do have some local pride, and when the Golden State Warriors went on an absolute tear in the last two weeks of the season, earning a playoff spot on the last day of the season, it was hard not to get caught up in all the excitement. Making the playoffs was the real achievement - so no one expected them to do what they did last night ... finish off the heavily favored Dallas Mavericks in 6 games. What made this series so fun to watch is that the Warriors were pretty clearly outmatched both in terms of height and star power. Yet, just their pure drive and determination was unlike anything I've really seen before. All those cliches writers like to use that don't actually seem to mean much - you know like "playing together as a team" or "having heart" - well all that seems to ring true with these guys. Seriously, it's a real inspiration to me. It kinda made me think of the Passionistas and New and Used Records and just being up against a lot, but thriving where no one expected you to do so. Let's hope they can keep this up, and please join N&UR, the Deli SF, and everybody on this Warriors bandwagon.
