Thoughts on David Lynch; Inland Empire Trailer

I've been thinking about David Lynch quite a bit lately - which really isn't that uncommon for anytime. It's just that there's quite a lot of David Lynch to be thinking about these days. I've been reading Greil Marcus's The Shape of Things to Come: Prophecy and the American Voice and his analysis of Lost Highway had me revisiting some journal entries from 2002 when I was doing a bit of an analysis on the film myself. In fact, seeing both Lost Highway and Mulholland Drive that summer, and the subsequent interpretations that followed, changed my life quite a bit. Then I went back to school and read Marcus's Lipstick Traces and my life kinda changed again - but I digress. Also new in the world of Lynch, is the news that Twin Peaks season two will finally see a dvd release in April. Check out the cover...
Also, the dude's got his own brand of coffee coming out, plus a remastered Twin Peaks soundtrack. Oh, and then there's that new film of his, Inland Empire which should land in San Francisco sometime this month. Check out the trailer, but don't expect to gather much about the film's premise. Lynch trailers tend to be an art in themselves.

I'm placing a request. Can you do a film post on Mulholland Drive? I've seen it so many times, and still really don't understand it fully, when I know I probably should.

I am soo excited for season 2! I have it on tape and the quality isn't so great.

I have a really cool book called "Lynch on Lynch" that I should lend you, since you so graciously lent me the alternate Mulholland Drive.

That was a David Lynch trailer, if I've ever seen one. But wait a minute - David Lynch coffee?

Hubby is a big fan of David Lynch films. In fact, Lynch movies are the only one's that he will actually go to the theatre to see (on opening weekends, no less).

Last year, I bought him the first season of Twin Peaks on DVD. He already had all the 1st & 2nd seasons on VHS, but I thought DVD would be much better.

I have a serious confusion problem with this movie and Southland Tales. Jamie, our homeland is getting some attention! I kept watching for the Rock (wishful thinking) in this preview. haha

What happened with that movie? I think it was from the Donnie Darko director.

I'd been wondering about Southland Tales myself. According to IMDB, it should have an April release. Interesting to note - the film takes place in 2008 ... which seems less and less like "the future" each day.

Just yesterday I searched Inland Empire on Wikipedia and ignored the movie page to explore the lengthy page on our old stomping grounds, The 909.

Hillary, I know you are totally curious now.

P.S.
Southland Tales is divided into six parts. A series of three graphic novels will tell the first three parts of the story; the film will tell the final three parts. The film's website is expected to be one of the largest and most elaborate ever designed for a feature film.

Has anyone read these?

According to their website, the graphic novels are still "coming soon."

Jamie-- I love it! "Rivalries between Colton, Redlands, Riverside and San Bernardino..." What a way to start a sentence. HAHA

Do you think David Lynch has spent any time in Rancho? If he has it would be almost exciting as Leonard Cohen in Mt. Baldy. (remember that?)

Hill:
a) My ex used to see Mr. Cohen at the Zen Temple in Mt. Baldy!
b) Did you read that bit on locals calling it "the 909"? haha.

Will: Turns out the first two graphic novels for Southland tales are onsale via Barnes and Noble.com.

Thanks Jamie ... yeah, looks like they've been out for some time. I wonder if they're available at our local comic book shop.
