Black Christmas - An Offbeat Holiday Classic

It's possible your holiday will include a viewing of Bob Clark's nostalgic family film, A Christmas Story. However, might I ask you to consider one of Clark's other holiday-themed film - the influential horror flick, Black Christmas. Released in 1974, it not only preceded Clark's warmer holiday vision, but also horror staples Halloween and Friday the 13th, both of which draw from some from Black Christmas. A pivotal and somewhat forgotten film in the horror genre, Black Christmas is chilling in its minimalism, building tension all the way through. The ending will probably leave you unfulfilled, but ultimately satisfied. Check out the trailer...

... and I should probably mention that a remake will be released on Christmas - which looks pretty awful.

I've never seen a Christmas Story, nor heard of Black Christmas. I seemed to have missed most holiday films this year. Black Christmas surely sounds interesting, I'll have to keep an eye out for it.

I have such fond memories of Black Christmas! I think it was one of the first films I remember seeing that was filmed in Canada, and I agree, the suspense builds really nicely.

I will still watch the remake but don't have high expectations.

I watched Black Christmas this year...it was on one of those movie channels that I get. Apparently when my Mom saw it back in the day, she was so scared that she had to leave the theatre. There is always a special place for B movies!!!
