So the playstation game Karaoke Revolution has become the new obsession round the N&UR office. Unlike your run-of-the-mill karaoke machine, Karaoke Revolution turns it into a competition, and even has a variety of characters you can play. Of course, Hillary kicks my ass everytime. She's really good - especially at "Beat It," "Thank You," "Killing Me Softly" - pretty much anything. We dueted on "Under Pressure" and that went pretty well, too. Unfortunately, the rock song selection is just not up to par - overstuffed with Three Doors Down and Evanescence. At least if there was some Kid Rock, I could sing that, but instead I'm stuck trying to memorize "When I'm Gone," which I always dedicate "to the troops" and most recently added a rather right wing freestyle to. I am rather excited about the new Party edition we just ordered, as I think Hillary and I could seriously kill on some "Crazy In Love." "Young hov/ y'all know the flow is loco" - there just isn't enough rap in karaoke. But who could have guessed that somewhere in my "can't hint a note to save my life no matter how bad I want to" state, "Against All Odds" would be the sing I could sing halfway decent. That's partially because I know almost all the words. Now, Hillary assumed I knew all the words because I'm cool and learned them from the Postal Service cover - but the truth is, I'm uncool and know all the words thanks to the Phil Collins version. It really is the best Phil Collins song I think.
But ... Peter Gabriel was still the better Genesis frontman.
"Against All Odds," Phil Collins
"Against All Odds," the Postal Service

You're not uncool, Will. You're just retro.
And I'm with you on the Genesis frontman battle.
That sounds like the best game!! I love karaoke in any form, so much fun.
I agree, Gabriel was the better frontman.
Is it uncool of me that I like the orginal verson better?
Me too Mel.
What a fun game that must be.
Can't beat the original - no shame in loving a bit of Phil, the production on a lot of his stuff is incredible.
But Peter Gabriel, yes. League of his own. Off topic slightly I went to see him last year. An unbelievably good show, on a round stage in the middle of the audience - performed 'Sledgehammer' in a suit covered in flashing light bulbs, and got inside one of those zorb things and bobbed all around the stage. Amazing. If you ever get the chance GO SEE HIM!
You tube of you and Hilary Karaeoke-ing, please!!
The couple who can perform Under Pressure will have long life together...
Jackie, I just read your post in the library and laughed out loud. I got some dirty looks from diligent studiers. hehe
Will just ordered us the Karaoke Revolution Country-- so exciting!
