Distinctly Canadian Food, Anyone?
I have a question for our readers in Canada, who I think account for nearly 100% of our readership. America, where you at? Anyhow, we're having a little Degrassi viewing party tomorrow at the N&UR office/studio and were looking to serve some distinctly Canadian food. Any suggestions?

Just go out and shoot yourself a deer - your guests will love it!
Though it's not a meal, we all really love ketchup. You could have some poutine, but you have to put ketchup on it.
whatever you eat, you need maple syrup.
actually, waffles with maple syrup. or Tim Hortons, if you can get it. make a border trip if you can.
Canadian Back Bacon. smothered in maple syrup. that, N&UR, is completely Canadian cuisine.
Hmmmmmm, A&W burgers with poutine and rootbeer. Or beer and icecream (me and my best friend had our Swedish visitor convinced that Canadians lived on beer and ice cream during his 6 week stay here). And like Prozak says, Ketchup...lots and lots of ketchup!
What did you decide on, Will and Hillary? I still suggest salmon or pizza.
Smoked salmon (for sure). Something cranberry (we are one of, if not, THE largest producers of them). Oysters, Canadian back bacon. I like Barbara's suggestions - salmon or pizza. Trout.
Or, according to a site I goggled, how about some: roast polar bear, boiled reindeer, moose meat soup, sweet pickled beaver, squirrel fricassee, fried woodchuck. Stuffed whale breast, steamed muskrat legs, boiled porcupine, boiled caribou hoofs. Baked skunk, dried buffalo meat, baked salmon, roast or boiled corn, and acorn bread. Yum (barf).
Wow, everyone came out in full force with this one. Thanks.
Degrassi!!! Ah, man sounds like an excellent evening.
Ketchup chips..although you can't get them in the States, ah well I guess that's not too helpful...
I'm late here. I am still trying to answer this for my friend who is from China (I was asked a year ago). But our beer is stronger, if you can get it. Or maybe some Canadian Club Rye Whiskey..
PS I am offended by the word varification I just had to type:
pbbpooz - ha :)
This is going to be the wierdest contribution. My daughter's dad once made me what he calls a "canadian breakfast", being that he is american he wouldn't know what that is. I am pretty certain that there is no such thing. I like to think of cereal as the universal breakfast! Anyway, he made me toast with peanut butter and apple sauce. It is pretty good, surprisingly. I don't know why it is "canadian".
My vote is for Salmon and Beer!
And you might want to watch some hockey while ur at it!
