The Original Gay Cowboy Movie

Decades before late night hacks and conservative pundits were making jokes about the "gay cowboy movie," there was in fact a gay cowboy movie. Directed by Andy Warhol, the film was Lonesome Cowboys and in 1969, it was awarded best film at the San Francisco Film Festival. Warhol was unable to find the distributor for the film - which concerns seven gay cowboys and a transvestite sheriff - so instead he rented out New York's Garrick Theater, where the film grossed $35-40,000 in its first week. Good luck trying to find it though.

Good find, I know some of the Wharhol films but didn't recall this. It beat Pricilla, queen of the desert, too!
