Current Video Projects

Seeing this picture of me in my film school days has inspired me to fill you in on some of the projects I am currently a part of. For almost a year now, Hillary and I have been working on a project directed by Alex Juhasz - collecting images, shooting footage, doing whatever was necessary. Juhasz produced indie classic The Watermelon Woman and her short Naming prairie played at the Sundance Film Festival in 2002. The film concerns her sister, Antonia, whose book The Bush Agenda: Taking Over the World One Economy At a Time will soon be released by Regan Books, and weaves passages of the book alongside discussions with various activists.

I am currently editing a project for commercial/music video director Meaghan Kimball entitled Exchange. The short chronicles two high school students from different backgrounds spending a day at the other's school - one public and one private. I previously edited two shorts for Kimball - Oktoberfest 2005 and City Skiers (click on the licks to watch); the former aired on CurrentTV last November, while both were named "Pick of the Week" on Current's website.

Lastly, I have a few projects of my own in the works, which I will fill you in on very soon.

Okay, now that is just way too cool. How do you edit a film? I edit scientific papers at work all the time, so I understand the basic concept, but how do you do that with film?
If you ever decide to go into more detail on a future post, I'd be fascinated to read about it. One thing, though, it sounds like way too much fun to be called work.
I particularly liked the Oktoberfest piece, having partaken of the event myself.

Will,
Even though I know nothing about video editing the City skiers vid. was cool.

Thanks, Ben and Barbara.

Video is actually my medium of choice. I have never used film before. Let's see - recorded on a digital videotape, imported into the computer from the camera, and cut together in a program called Final Cut Pro.

I am really excited to show you my work, in addition to videos I've edited for other people.

Will appears! I admire your work ethic. I am amazed at how much you blog with all your real projects going on.

Look forward to hearing more, and congrats on your editing successes. From what I know of editing, it's one of the unseen arts behind film and video, I have heard of films that were remade in editing (and improved), and of course there is the old joke "We'll fix it in post".

Jacquie, you are too kind. I will give some updates and footage as it comes ... though I don't want to bog the blog down.

Yeah, I feel like editing is where the magic happens. When I'm cutting together my own work - that's where I really shape the piece; when I'm editing other people's work, often I have to make it seem better than it is (a fun challenge).
