The Worst Song In January

In addition to deconstructing the worst songs in highly specific genres, each month we will bestow an honor to the song that made us turn off the radio more than any other that month. This one is long overdue...

Some rock stars take themselves very seriously (Radiohead, Sigur Ros), and with good reason; others don't take themselves very seriously (Tenacious D, Art Brut), and with good reason. Then there are those with an utter lack of self-awareness who sing so earnestly, while you think to yourself that they must be joking. Alternative radio stations have been rather boastful as of late, with regards to the fact that Creed and 3 Doors Down are no longer on their playlists. That pride, however, has not stopped them for playing identical crap like Avenged Sevenfold and H.I.M.

H.I.M. - along with Coheed and Cambria - are attempting to launch a movement aimed at those who believe the only real rock and roll was Dio-fronted epic tales of mystics and demons. H.I.M.'s contribution to is hardly memorable, aside from it's too-stupid-to-be-true chorus, "Come on, and show them your love/Rip out the wings of a butterfly/For your soul, my love/Rip out the wings of a butterfly/For your soul." They play with such passion it's as if they truly believe ripping out the wings of a butterfly will save their soul. And, why they wings of a butterfly? I guess dragons - or anything beastly with wings - were already taken.

We haven't heard or seen the likes of H.I.M. in these parts, I am now "enlightened". It must have taken a lot of research to find the worst, but you managed it.
