1). "Bachelorette" (1997), Bjork / directed by Michel Gondry
I saw this video just once on television - and then it haunted me for several years before I found it on a VHS. I was 16 when I first saw "Bachelorette," and was not too familiar with surrealism or experimental film; this was in many ways my introduction. The gorgeous set design, and amazing attention to detail endeared Gondry to me as a director, and I hoped he would soon crossover into feature films. I had listened to Bjork before - even seen her live - but this song (and my subsequent purchase of Homogenic) made her one of my favorite artists. I related to the dark and self-destructive sides of artistic expression that the video portrays. The more Bjork pours out her soul to the world, the more she is forced to repeat the same story time and time again. As she repeats the story, the audience becomes confused, and her life begins to fall apart. Incredible song, incredible visuals - the greatest music video every made (in my humble opinion).

Thanks for sharing this- I consider myself a Bjork fan and I have never seen this.
Beautiful,haunting,disturbing, claustrophobic and profound.
note- I had trouble getting the end of the video but it might be my connection.
Will,
I wanted to see the video but it keeps cutting out about 3/4 of the way through. I'm sure there mut be something meaningful at the end.
Sorry about the technical issues. I posted a new one which I hope works better. Then you can post your thoughts - also let me know what I missed...
Thanks, it works fine. How can 4 minutes say so much, so well? Music video raised to a real art form. We are lucky Gondry has been given the chance to shoot features as well. Wonderful choice, and list, thanks.
This video blows me away everytime I see it - I'm glad you can see it all the way through now.
