Grammy Preview

The Grammy Awards - that great celebration of music mediocrity happens tonight. Generally speaking, I don't invest a lot of emotional energy in the Grammys. I am, however, excited to see a few of my favorites (Gorillaz, Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, and Kanye) up for some awards. What I am most looking forward to, though, is the opening performance featuring Gorillaz and Madonna. If you caught Gorillaz' performance with De La Soul at the MTV Europe Music Awards, you know that their live show is certainly something to see. It should be a lot better than last year's opening where Franz Ferdinand were forced to play with Black Eyed Peas and Los Lonely Boys - all at the same time. What a mess that was. Now they don't give me a ballot, but if they did, it would probably look like this in the major categories (hint: I bolded my winners):

Album of the Year:
The Emancipation of Mimi, Mariah Carey
Chaos and Creation in the Backyard, Paul McCartney
Love, Angel, Music, Baby, Gwen Stefani
How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb, U2
Late Registration, Kanye West

Record of the Year:
"We Belong Together," Mariah Carey
"Feel Good Inc," Gorillaz
"Boulevard of Broken Dreams," Green Day
"Hollaback Girl," Gwen Stefani
"Gold Digger," Kanye West

Keane
Sugarland

Best Rock Album:

I like your picks, you should get a ballot. I am voting for Arcade Fire in my imaginary ballot.
Gorillaz and Madonna should be good. Are you still working on your monkey theme?

It's hard to keep the monkey theme going. We'll see ... I'm sure it will pop up every now and then.

Will,

Don't you think the choices for album of the year are pretty poor ?

Ridculously poor. Except for Kanye. They had a couple of years there with really good nominees ... oh well, I don't expect too much from them.
