Dismissing possibilities of a reconciliation with his former band with statements like, "Blur was very much a boyish thing. I'm over it," Graham Coxon forges ahead with his solo career. He declares his independence once again with "Standing On My Own Again," the first single from his forthcoming album, "Love Travel at Illegal Speeds" (due out March 13 in the UK). 2004's "Happiness in Magazines" saw Coxon returning to the classic Britpop sound that Blur had all but abandoned, and while it was at times brilliant ("My Bittersweet Bundle of Misery"), it also had its moments of blandness. With "Standing..." Coxon hints that he may just have found that Britpop perfection he was searching for. True to form, he builds the song around simple guitar progressions and a harmony-laced chorus; it's a formula, but Coxon nails it. While Blur frontman Damon Albarn has always wanted to experiment with various genres, Coxon seems content to fuse the pop and garage sounds that put British music on the map.4 STARS (out of 5)

Can't wait for the new album. "Happiness in magazines" was a great album, and "Freakin out" was one of THE singles of 2004.
